A complete timeline of major events in the Locked Tomb Trilogy. Some dates/chronology are approximated or inferred, and subject to change with new material. Much of this timeline is originally assembled thanks to darkveracity on tumblr and is cross-referenced, adapted, and expanded here.
Ancient History[]
Pre-Nine Houses History[]
- The First House suffers from catastrophic climate change and a nuclear fission chain reaction.[1]
- Construction occurs on Canaan House[2], attempting to build above rising sea levels.[3]
- Augustine is born.[4]
The Birth of The Nine Houses (Y1)[]
- The star, the planets, and the people what will become the Dominican System are killed but the details are unclear.
- The death of the nine planets creates nine Resurrection Beasts who scatter to the edges of the Universe.[5]
- John Gaius resurrects A.L. and becomes the first necromancer, The Necrolord Prime—God and Emperor.[1]
- The Emperor performs The Resurrection, resurrecting the star, renamed Dominicus in reference to his own divinity[3], and the nine planets as the first and only thanergenic systems.[6]
- The Emperor begins to resurrect people in waves, preserving some as insurance.[5]

- The Emperor adopts the regnal name of "Gaius", abandoning his pre-Resurrection surname, which remains unknown.[7]
Y1-Y1000[]
- Necromancers begun to be born on the Nine Planets.[6]
- Ten disciples gather at Canaan House, half of which possess necromantic abilities. The Emperor's divine power protects and extends their lives so long as they remain close to him.[2]
- Augustine and Alfred Quinque
- Mercymorn and Cristabel Oct
- Gideon and Pyrrha Dve
- Cassiopeia and Nigella Shodash
- Ulysses and Titania Tetra
- The five disciples who do not possess necromantic ability take the protection of the necromancers upon themselves, becoming the first cavaliers.[2]
- The Houses are founded. In recognition of their roles as founders, the disciples adopt their arithmonymics. It is unknown precisely how much involvement each pair may have had in founding their own house, nor is it known how the Third and Seventh Houses were founded.
- Gideon and Pyrrha Dve found the Second House and the Cohort
- Ulysses and Titania Tetra found the Fourth House
- Augustine and Alfred Quinque found the Fifth House and the Koniortos Court[8]
- Cassiopeia and Nigella Shodash found the Sixth House
- Mercymorn and Cristabel Oct found the Eighth House[8]
- Six second generation disciples who grew up in the new Houses come to Canaan House.[9]
- Cyrus and Valancy Trinit
- Anastasia and Samael Novenary
- Cytherea and Loveday Heptane
- The Emperor and his disciples discover the secrets of Interstellar travel via River and Stele.[10]
- In The Facility of Canaan House, the disciples plumb the boundaries of necromantic ability:
- Gideon and Pyrrha Dve develop the transference theorem.[10]
- Mercymorn and Cristabel Oct develop the avulsion theorem.
- Cassiopeia and Nigella Shodash, by way of psychometry, develop the theorems that allow for the creation of Teacher and the other constructs in Canaan House.[11]
- And the eventual creation of the Lyctoral Megatheorem.
- The Disciples undertake a number of other activities:
- Cristabel and Alfred make a decision that forces Augustine and Mercymorn to ascend to Lyctor.[3]
- Gideon ascends to Lyctor, Pyrrha is compartmentalized and preserved inside him.[15]
- Cassiopeia, Cyrus, Ulysses, and Cytherea ascend to Lyctorhood.
- Cassiopeia and Anastasia begin working together on the concept of Perfect Lyctorhood.[15]
- Anastasia attempts to ascend—She nearly succeeds, but panics and The Emperor kills Samael Novenary to save her life.[15]
- The Lyctors realize what the Resurrection Beasts are, and that they are hunting them.[3]
- The Lyctors fight and kill Number Two.[5]
- At the behest of his Lyctors, The Emperor kills Alecto.[3]
- Anastasia and The Emperor create The Locked Tomb, unintentionally founding The Ninth House.[3]
- Anastasia dies.
- The Lyctors flee through the River and establish the Mithraeum as a base of operations.
Y1000-Y5000[]
- The Emperor, The Nine Houses, and The Cohort begins building an Empire.
- In response to necromancy, Blood of Eden, an insurgency group, forms and begins looking for The Empire's forces.[16]
- Around Y4000, Source Gram opens up communications between the Sixth House and Blood of Eden.
- In response to necromancy, Blood of Eden, an insurgency group, forms and begins looking for The Empire's forces.[16]
- The Lyctors kill Number Six.[5]
- The Lyctors kill Number Eight.[5]
- The Lyctors kill Number One.[17]

- The understanding of the role of the cavalier has evolved to include "The Social Cavalier," or the cavalier primary of the House.[12]
- Cassiopeia teaches Mercymorn that pure blood wards can be spoofed with the blood of a parent or child.[18]
- Cytherea attempts to approach the physical corpus of a Resurrection Beast in order to plant a bomb and goes mad for weeks.[17]
- The Lyctors fight Number Seven.[19]
- Cassiopeia attempts to draw it into the River and is torn apart by angry ghosts.
- Number Seven is unharmed.

- Matthias Nonius is born and becomes the greatest swordsman of the Ninth House.[20]
- Matthias Nonius fights Gideon the First and comes to owe him a debt.[20]

The contract between the Emperor and New Rho is signed, establishing it as a shepherd colony in the Empire.[21]

- Mercymorn and Augustine begin plotting Dios apate, major.[18]

- Mercymorn's ova die, and Commander Wake inseminates herself as a last resort.[18]

- Commander Wake gives self-induces and gives birth aboard her shuttle.[18]
- Gideon the First confronts Wake en route to Ninth House.[18]
- Weakened, Wake loses the bout and is pushed out the airlock.[18]
- Wake runs out of oxygen and dies; her baby lives and is named Gideon Nav.[27]
- Pelleamena Novenarius and Priamhark Noniusvianus commit the Ninth House Genocide and conceive of Harrowhark Nonagesimus.[28]
